LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending A. Nicholas Buttino upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition after 50 years of distin-
guished service to Adirondack Community College/SUNY Adirondack
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend A. Nicholas
Buttino upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 50 years of distinguished service to Adirondack Community
College/SUNY Adirondack; and
WHEREAS, During his half decade of service, A. Nicholas Buttino was
awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching for
consistently superior professional achievement and the ongoing pursuit
of excellence; a SUNY community role model, he was also twice awarded
the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching; and
WHEREAS, For the last six years, A. Nicholas Buttino has served as
Chair of the Business Division; in this capacity he has developed
academic programming, supported student initiatives and built
connections with area businesses and alumni; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino has great passion for his work in the
classroom and is known to share his expertise and experience in teaching
with his colleagues, and frequently, mentors new members of the adjunct
faculty staff; and
WHEREAS, Under A. Nicholas Buttino's leadership, SUNY Adirondack's
International Education program has been a strong proponent and facili-
tator to engage the greater community in international travel; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino has served as Marshal of SUNY
Adirondack's graduation ceremony, and in 2012, for the 50th Anniversary
of the first graduating class of the college, he was given the honor of
serving as the commencement speaker; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino participates in the SUNY ADK Chorus which
delivers wonderful concerts each year including a performance at gradu-
ation and he has served on countless committees, including the SUNY
Adirondack Sports Hall of Fame committee; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, A. Nicholas Buttino took on the role of
Business Club Advisor and served as advisor for 35 years; he was recog-
nized as Advisor of the Year twice and initiated the Annual Business
Alumni Dinner which recognizes the importance and value in connecting
students with alumni; and
WHEREAS, Over 20 years ago, while serving as Business Club Advisor, A.
Nicholas Buttino founded the Baseball Club in order for the college to
qualify as an interscholastic baseball team; he served as the Club's
advisor for the required three years prior to it becoming an intercolle-
giate team sport; and
WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, A. Nicholas Buttino helped found the
Broadcasting Club by filing an FCC license application and helping in
the development of the Radio and Television Broadcasting academic
program for the college; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man also established the Adirondack Business
Educators (ABE) to bring together high school business educators with
college business faculty in an effort to share best practices and advo-
cate for business education; the ABE launched the highly successful
annual Business Day program in which high school students compete at
SUNY Adirondack; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, A. Nicholas Buttino has been a
regular member of the Speakers Bureau, a collection of faculty members
who conduct presentations and programs in the greater community related
to their field of expertise; he has also been a regular presenter of The
Senior Lecture Series which is a widely received program for area
seniors at SUNY Adirondack; and
WHEREAS, As Treasurer of the Faculty Student Association, A. Nicholas
Buttino supported the efforts to secure the organizational structure and
financing necessary to make student housing a reality; he served on the
Fundraising Committee for the Regional Higher Education Center, securing
philanthropic dollars in support of this community project; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, A. Nicholas Buttino has served on the Board of the
Faculty Student Association for 35 years, where he held the leadership
positions of President and Treasurer; he also has been an active member
of the Faculty Association of Adirondack Community College serving as
Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, In addition, A. Nicholas Buttino served as the association's
representative to the college's Board of Trustees for three years
attending board meetings and updating board members on faculty activ-
ities and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino's service in the community is well docu-
mented and includes serving as Business Manager of the Lake George Opera
Festival for 18 years and the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra for 12
years as well as establishing the Adirondack Business Development Part-
nership which hosts seminars on topics of interest for area business
professionals; and
WHEREAS, A. Nicholas Buttino has a long history of volunteer service
to the greater community serving as a Little League Coach for 20 years,
a Cub Scout Master for four years, and as a member of the Saint Michael
Choir in South Glens Falls for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, In December of 2010, A. Nicholas Buttino along with
musician/composer Jonathan Newell, record producer Stu Kuby and communi-
ty member Judith Johnson founded the Hudson River Music Hall (HRMH) to
further enhance the quality of life in the region through the art, music
and theater performances and educational programs, while supporting
entrepreneurship in these fields of endeavor; he has served as the Trea-
surer of the Board since the organization was formed and has spearheaded
a number of its fundraising efforts; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a

period of constructive involvement, A. Nicholas Buttino has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which A. Nicholas Buttino has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend A. Nicholas Buttino upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after 50 years of distinguished service to Adiron-
dack Community College/SUNY Adirondack; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to A. Nicholas Buttino.
