LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack LaDuke upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after a long and distinguished
career as a television newsman, photographer and journalist
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay just
tribute to those whose creative talents and commitment to the arts
contribute to the enrichment of their community and the world, and to
pay homage to a man whose life of artistic accomplishment stands out as
an inspiration to others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack
LaDuke upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after a long and distinguished career as a television newsman, photogra-
pher and journalist; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion was recognized on Monday, December
29, 2014, by Village Mayor Clyde Rabideau and the Board of Trustees,
with a ceremony prior to the Village Board Meeting, Saranac Lake, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Keeseville, New York, Jack LaDuke, 80, lives in
Saranac Lake and is currently a freelance reporter for Mountain Lake
PBS, as well as a freelance photographer for the PLATTSBURGH PRESS-RE-
PUBLICAN; and
WHEREAS, Jack LaDuke's illustrious career began more than 60 years ago
when he was just 12 years old working for the ESSEX COUNTY REPUBLICAN
newspaper; he went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy,
working in its photography division; and
WHEREAS, Upon completion of his military service, Jack LaDuke attended
college in Madrid, Spain, where he worked for the United Press Interna-
tional as a feature editor for a travel magazine; he returned to the
United States, did some freelance work, and then was hired by the U.S.
State Department to travel to El Salvador to set up an educational chan-
nel for children; and
WHEREAS, Returning home three years later, Jack LaDuke worked as the
East Coast reporter for TVN, which would later become CNN; during the
1980 Winter Olympics, he was the audio-visual director for the Lake
Placid Olympic Organizing Committee; and
WHEREAS, Jack LaDuke served as the Adirondack bureau chief for WCAX
Channel 3 News, a position he held for three decades before retiring in
late 2008; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Jack LaDuke was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, After tireless decades of high caliber journalism, Jack
LaDuke has become renowned for his ability to get the facts, as well as
the human side of the story, and for his unwavering quest for the right
photograph to help tell the story; and
WHEREAS, In addition to countless awards and accolades, Jack LaDuke
was asked by the Village Mayor to sign Saranac Lake's Pine Cone Book of
Distinguished Guests, and was inducted into the Vermont Broadcasters
Association Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as a television newsman, photographer and
journalist, Jack LaDuke served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and
truly earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife of 49 years, Marina,
who feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jack LaDuke upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after a long and distinguished career as a television news-
man, photographer and journalist; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack LaDuke.
