LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack Meader posthumously upon the occa-
sion of his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic
Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack
Meader posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenec-
tady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its
19th Annual Hall of Fame and Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 12,
2016, at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jack Meader is a 1949 graduate of Nott Terrace High School,
where he distinguished himself by his many notable achievements in
cross-country and track; and
WHEREAS, In 1948, Jack Meader accomplished numerous feats including
becoming the Utica-Proctor High School Cross-Country Champion, NYU High
School Cross-Country Champion, Grout Run winner, and Eastern United
States Cross-Country Champion; he also won the Sectional Outdoor
880-yard event and was named Bill Stern Schenectady Athlete of the Year;
and
WHEREAS, As Captain of the 1949 Nott Terrace Track Team, this remark-
able athlete became National AAU High School Indoor 1000 yard Champion,
Eastern United States High School Outdoor 880 yard Champion, Sectional
Outdoor 440 yard Champion, and won the Adirondack AAU 880 yard event
while setting numerous records; and
WHEREAS, While attending The Hill School, Jack Meader won the 1950
National AAU Prep School Indoor 440 and 880 yard races and the Millrose
Games Association Outstanding Performance Award; he also became a candi-
date for the 1952 Olympic team but was unable to compete due to injury;
and
WHEREAS, After continuing his running career at Yale University, Jack
Meader became the 1954 Heptagonal Outdoor 880 yard Champion and finished
4th in the IC4A Indoor 1000 yard run at Madison Square Garden; he also
won the Gardner Millet Award at Yale for Sportsmanship, Courage and
Inspiration; and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Jack received a professional certif-
icate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Management Engineering,
and completed his Juris Doctor from Cornell University Law School; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious career, Jack Meader served as Assist-
ant Attorney General of New York State, Corporation Counsel for GE in
Schenectady and General Counsel for Glidden Division of SCM Corporation;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Jack Meader was President and Chairman of the
Board of the Applied Power Technology Company and President of Applied
Energy, Inc., as well as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army
Reserve and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate in the 3rd United States Army
JAG Corp - United States Central Command; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Jack Meader served as Senior Colonel, Comp-
troller, and Military Judge in the New York State Guard, Judge for the
New York State Department of Social Services, and an Administrative Law
Judge for the New York State Workers Compensation Board; and
WHEREAS, A passionate supporter of the sport of track and field, Jack
Meader was the announcer at the William F. Eddy Jr. Memorial Track Meet
for 57 years; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Jack Meader; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Jack Meader for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Jack Meader posthumously upon the occasion of
his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jack Meader, and the Schenectady City School
District Athletic Hall of Fame.
