LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia,
upon the occasion of being crowned Miss New York 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor today's young people, the leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the ideals and
values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia, upon the occasion of being
crowned Miss New York 2015 on June 6, 2015, in Staten Island, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lynn Macchia, a native of Staten Island, earned her
Bachelor of Science degree in Arts Administration and Marketing from
Wagner College, where she was a vital member of the Competitive Dance
Team and the ODK National Leadership Honor Society; in addition, she was
a proud sister of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Miss New York 2015 Jamie Lynn Macchia is embracing
her year of service with the ideals and tradition that have been the
fabric of the Miss America organization since its inception in 1921; and
WHEREAS, For almost 100 years, the Miss America Organization has been
one of the nation's leading achievement programs and one of the world's
largest providers of scholarship assistance for young women, including
the Miss New York Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lynn Macchia is living the American dream, serving as
an inspiration to young women everywhere that dreams can come true espe-
cially when you seek to serve your community and place others before
yourself; and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lynn Macchia proudly employs the influence her Miss New
York title carries to raise awareness and funds for child cancer
research, with the launch of her Inspiring Action Against Pediatric
Cancer campaign; and
WHEREAS, After the death of her best friend to leukemia at the young
age of 15, Jamie Lynn Macchia joined forces with the Pediatric Cancer
Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Gianna Nicole's Heart of Hope
and The Truth 365 to help raise money for the necessary research to give
children a fighting chance against these deadly diseases; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her reign as Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia has
continued to campaign for MoreThan4 percent, which is the only amount of
federal funding for cancer research which is allocated to all childhood
cancers combined; through her steadfast and committed efforts, she has
helped raise significant funds for various charity organizations; and
WHEREAS, As Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia served as co-Chair of
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk and has received
numerous prestigious awards and accolades for her dedicated work includ-
ing the Miss America Community Service Award, the Miracle Maker Award by
the Children's Miracle Network and the 20 Under 40 Award by the SIEDC;
and
WHEREAS, Young women from across our great Nation from diverse
cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds aspire to such lofty goals, the
pursuit of which molds and transforms these young women in an exemplary
manner; and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lynn Macchia exemplifies the potential inherent in our
young women; she is an outstanding role model for her peers and for the
young people with whom she works and stands with poise and purpose to
face the challenges of new experiences; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia, upon the occasion of
being crowned Miss New York 2015, with the anticipation of her continued
exemplary representation of the people of this great Empire State; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Miss New York 2015 Jamie Lynn Macchia.
