LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jim Kenyon upon the occasion of his
retirement after more than 40 years of television news reporting in the
Central New York community

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those outstanding individuals within our midst whose dedication and
professional endeavors have enhanced the quality of life in this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, News reporters who dedicated their lives to informing the
public and upholding the principles of democracy merit recognition from
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jim
Kenyon upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 40 years of
television news reporting in the Central New York community; he offi-
cially retired on December 23, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Jim Kenyon, raised in the City of Syracuse and a graduate of
Henninger High School, studied journalism at SUNY Morrisville; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Jim Kenyon began his esteemed reporting career in
the Syracuse area, when he accepted a job at WSYR-TV; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Jim Kenyon left WSYR to join the news team at WSTM-
TV, which is now CNY Central, where he served as Chief Investigative
Reporter for almost four decades; and
WHEREAS, During his 38 years with WSTM and CNY Central, Jim Kenyon
served the community as a trusted powerhouse in uncovering corruption,
fraud and wrongdoing at every level; he also covered countless breaking
news reports and numerous in-depth stories of the area; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Jim Kenyon was honored
with dozens of awards on the local, state and national level including a
national award in 1992 from Investigative Reporters and Editors for his
story on widespread fraud among local trash haulers; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Jim Kenyon has been recognized by the United
States Justice Department, the New York State Broadcasters Association,
the Associated Press, and the Syracuse Press Club; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, of 41 years, Janice,
and their daughter, Gina, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Jim Kenyon consistently demonstrated a passion for enhancing
the quality of news in the Central New York community and beyond, always
serving as the public's eyes and ears, asking the tough questions,
uncovering all of the details, and lending a voice to the voiceless; and
WHEREAS, Jim Kenyon leaves behind much more than mere bricks and
mortar; he leaves behind a legacy of excellence in journalism to the
Central New York community and to all of the news reporters he mentored
over the last four decades; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jim Kenyon upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 40
years of television news reporting in the Central New York community;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jim Kenyon.
