LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the tragic and untimely death of NYPD
Officer Wenjian Liu on December 20, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its grateful
appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of a coura-
geous police officer who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family, community and the city of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with extreme sadness that this Legislative Body records
the passing of 34-year old NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu of Bensonhurst,
Brooklyn, who made the ultimate sacrifice on Saturday, December 20,
2014, while faithfully executing his responsibilities, serving the
people of New York City with dedication, loyalty and compassion, and who
devoted his determined life and career to serve and protect; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1981, NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu began his distin-
guished career as a Police Officer after attending the College of Staten
Island and Kingsborough Community College; he was an auxiliary officer
before becoming a police officer in 2007; and
WHEREAS, NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu was honored posthumously and
promoted to the esteemed position of Detective First Grade; and
WHEREAS, Wenjian Liu was the only son of Chinese immigrants Wei Tang
Liu and Xiu Yan Li; his family came to the United States from Taishan,
Guangdong, in China, when he was 12-years old; and
WHEREAS, NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu is survived by his cherished wife,
Pei Xia Chen, who he married in October 2014; and
WHEREAS, NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu lived his life with great dignity
and kindness, always showing an enduring concern for the welfare and
care of others in the great city of New York; and
WHEREAS, NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu had an inspiring sense of compassion
and he leaves behind a clear legacy which will undoubtedly endure the
passage of time and will always remain a comforting memory to all that
he served and befriended; he will be sincerely missed and truly merits
the grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the tragic and untimely death of NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu, noting
the significance of his contributions on behalf of this State, and
expressing its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu.
