LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Police Chief Steven Krokoff upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than two decades of distinguished
service to the City of Albany Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote them-
selves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in
providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities
and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Police Chief
Steven Krokoff upon the occasion of his retirement after more than two
decades of distinguished service to the City of Albany Police Depart-
ment, to be celebrated at the Polish-American Community Center, Albany,
New York, on Friday, March 27, 2015; and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Steven Krokoff received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany; in May
of 2013, he earned a Masters in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, Steven Krokoff began his career with the Albany Police
Department in 1993; he then graduated from the Police Academy and served
as an Officer in the Patrol Division from 1993-2000; and
WHEREAS, In January of 2000, Officer Steven Krokoff was promoted to
Sergeant in the Patrol Division; in July of 2003, he was promoted to
Detective Sergeant in the Office of Professional Standards; in March
2004, he was promoted to Commander in charge of the Office of Profes-
sional Standards; and
WHEREAS, In September of the year, he became Commander in charge of
Detective Division before being promoted to Assistant Chief in October
of 2005; and
WHEREAS, In June of 2008, he was promoted to the position of Deputy
Chief in charge of daily operations of the Albany Police Department; and
WHEREAS, In September of 2009, Assistant Chief Steven Krokoff was
named to serve as Acting Chief; and
WHEREAS, Just nine months later, Mayor Jerry Jennings named Steven
Krokoff to the illustrious title of Police Chief, a position he would
hold until his retirement in 2015; he later won the unanimous endorse-
ment of city lawmakers as the first Police Chief ever confirmed by the
Common Council; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Police Chief, Steven Krokoff was instru-
mental in decreasing property crime by 15.5 percent, and without employ-
ing aggressive tactics, reduced violent crime by 20 percent; and
WHEREAS, Police Chief Steven Krokoff also created the Neighborhood
Engagement Unit, a community police advisory board, and a strategic plan
for the department, all while reducing crime levels in Albany; and
WHEREAS, Police Chief Steven Krokoff and his present staff have been
instrumental in redefining the Albany Police Department's community
policing model by working with a diverse group of community leaders in
an effort to improve the quality of life throughout the entire city of
Albany; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Lynn, and his two
children, Brett and Taylor, all both of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Police Chief Steven Krokoff upon the occasion of his retirement
after more than two decades of distinguished service to the City of
Albany Police Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Chief Steven Krokoff.
