LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Under the Nose upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2015 New Business of the Year Award by
the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the achievements of individuals, organizations, and businesses
which contribute substantially to the economic health and vitality of
the communities of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Under the Nose upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2015 New Business of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its annual business dinner, at The Best
Western Inn, Cobleskill, New York, on Friday, March 27, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to the
cooperative efforts of the business and residential communities in
preserving the quality, character, and vitality of businesses in the
County of Schoharie and each year proudly honors those in the community,
such as Under the Nose, which helps to further these goals; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Linda and Tom Quinn established Under the Nose, a
unique shop located next to Vroman's Nose, in Middleburgh, New York,
which offers handcrafted gifts, fresh baked snacks, and a quiet place to
rest, relax and recharge after a hike up the mountain; and
WHEREAS, Under the Nose was a result of a three-year recovery process
after Hurricane Irene destroyed the couple's previous building which
housed their businesses; and
WHEREAS, Through a combination of Tom Quinn's creativity, construction
skills, and ability to reclaim previously used material, as well as
recovery grants, their own personal investment, and the general assist-
ance from the community, friends, and family, the couple were able to
rebuild their lives; and
WHEREAS, The new structure houses Under the Nose gift shop, Linda
Quinn's pottery studio and her web and graphic design business, MyMobie,
as well as Tom Quinn's model rocket business, Q-Modeling; soon, the
Quinns will also offer a wholesale bakery; and
WHEREAS, Under the Nose gift shop features Linda Quinn's illus-
trations, pottery, and baked goods, as well as crafts from local arti-
sans; the covered porch is a much loved spot to enjoy a refreshment
after hiking the nearby trails of Vroman's Nose; and
WHEREAS, In April of 2015, Under the Nose will re-open for the season
and Linda and Tom Quinn will provide a new large area in the back yard
for quiet reading, and relaxing with friends; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Linda and Tom Quinn plan to offer their shop as
an information resource for hiking enthusiasts; they will also offer
coffee and tea options, making it a perfect location to teach a class,
have a meeting, or celebrate an occasion; and
WHEREAS, Linda and Tom Quinn have been married for 34 years; together,
they raised three amazing children, and have one beautiful granddaugh-
ter, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice
in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Together, Linda and Tom Quinn work with children at the Scho-
harie County Department of Social Services; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of Under the Nose, recognizes its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that, in its future, it will
enjoy the same sparkling success which has so characterized its past;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Under the Nose upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2015 New Business of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Cham-
ber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda and Tom Quinn, owners, Under the Nose.
