LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roger Arliss upon the occasion of his
induction into the Clyde Sports Hall of Fame on April 11, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Roger Arliss upon the occasion of his induction into the Clyde Sports
Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 26,
Clyde, New York, on Saturday, April 11, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A long-time resident of Clyde, Roger Arliss was born on March
21, 1949, to William and Ella Arliss, in Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Roger Arliss graduated from Clyde-Savannah High School, and
then majored in Agricultural Sciences at both the State University of
Technology at Alfred, New York, and Cornell University in Ithaca, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Roger Arliss is being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame
in Clyde due to being a stellar athlete who excelled in his respective
sports, and in doing so brought honor, recognition, distinction, and
excellence to Clyde-Savannah High School by his conduct both on and off
the field; and
WHEREAS, For three years, Team Captain Roger Arliss was an instru-
mental member of the Clyde-Savannah High School Track Team; he is remem-
bered for pioneering the modern day pole vaulting technique, and for
setting the Wayne County record in the 2 mile run, for which he was
named Champion; and
WHEREAS, Senior Co-Captain Roger Arliss was also a talented football
player; known as "A Tiger in Shoulder Pads", he earned three varsity
letters, and was selected to the First Team All-Conference for both
offense and defense; and
WHEREAS, In 1969, Roger Arliss was a member of the Empire State
Conference Championship Alfred Tech Wrestling Team, and a year later,
was a standout linebacker for the Cornell University Lightweight Foot-
ball 160 pound League; and
WHEREAS, Roger Arliss was both a former delegate and Director of the
New York State Farm Bureau, as well as both the past delegate and Direc-
tor of the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Roger Arliss was the President of the Wayne
County Farm Bureau; during his tenure in this position, he received
numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding dedication to his
community; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Roger Arliss holds the position of President of
Pit Farms in Clyde, and is a vital member of the New York State Farm
Bureau; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his daughter, Melissa, his two
grandchildren, Marina and Blake, five brothers, Fred, Larry, William,
Jr., Randy, and Philip, and two sisters, Ida and Shelly, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Roger Arliss upon the occasion of his

induction into the Clyde Sports Hall of Fame on April 11, 2015; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roger Arliss.
