LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David M. Van Slyke upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus in Public
Administration and Policy Award by the Rockefeller College of Public
Affairs & Policy
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, David M. Van Slyke has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor David M. Van
Van Slyke upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Distinguished Alumnus in Public Administration and Policy Award by the
Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, to be celebrated at its
2015 Alumni Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the
New York State Museum, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy
honors individuals such as David M. Van Van Slyke, for their outstanding
contributions in the areas of political science, public administration,
leadership, and continuing professional development; and
WHEREAS, Currently, David M. Van Slyke holds the Louis A. Bantle Chair
in Business-Government Policy and is a tenured full Professor in the
Department of Public Administration and International Affairs at the
Maxwell School of Citizenship, Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Professor David M. Van Slyke also serves as a non-resident
faculty member at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, Nether-
lands; in addition, he is the co-Editor of both the JOURNAL OF PUBLIC
ADMINISTRATION RESEARCH AND THEORY and THE JOURNAL OF STRATEGIC
CONTRACTING AND NEGOTIATION, and serves as a member of several other
editorial boards; and
WHEREAS, Professor David M. Van Slyke's research and teaching focuses
on government contracting, public-private partnerships, policy implemen-
tation, and strategic management in public and non-profit organizations;
he has published several articles in both domestic and international
journals and practitioner outlets, as well as authored award-winning
books; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Professor David M. Van Slyke is actively engaged
in executive education, conducting trainings around the world, including
in China, India, Singapore, and Thailand; he also worked with the World
Bank in Russia; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man is the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades, including the Birkhead-Burkhead Professorship for Teaching
Excellence Award, a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Adminis-
tration, the Best Article published in the JOURNAL OF PUBLIC ADMINIS-
TRATION RESEARCH AND THEORY, and the 2014 Best Book Award from the Amer-
ican Society for Public Administration; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David M. Van Slyke upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Distinguished Alumnus in Public Administration and Policy
Award by the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David M. Van Van Slyke.
