LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the Kevin B. Dobson Traffic
Safety Award by the New York State Police
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished values
worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those exemplary public servants who devote their lives to preserving and
protecting such values; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Kevin B. Dobson Traffic Safety Award by the New York
State Police to be celebrated at the 39th Annual Awards Day Ceremony on
Monday, May 11, 2015, at the New York State Police Academy in Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda has proudly served as a member of
the New York State Police for over two decades; a vital leader with a
passion for helping others, he has educated and affected thousands of
motorists in his efforts to increase highway safety; and
WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda has
provided outstanding service to the Clarence Interstate Patrol, distin-
guishing himself in numerous areas of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda issued 945 tickets, of
which 475 were for speeding violations; he also recorded the highest
number of DWI arrests among all Troop A members; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda's efforts have been positively
received both internally within the State Police and externally with its
many partners; his extensive knowledge regarding motorcycle safety has
resulted in several police agencies requesting State Police assistance
in public forums; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his law enforcement responsibilities, Trooper
Michael J. Niezgoda serves as a member of the Troop A Motorcycle Detail,
providing his leadership and professionalism at numerous dignitary,
funeral, and charity events; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda continues to proudly
serve his country as a 25-year veteran of the United States Marine
Corps.; he has received 27 military decorations for his bravery includ-
ing the Purple Heart, and the Presidential Unit Citation; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda has been called upon to contrib-
ute his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of himself unstintingly; he has expertly coordinated
events for such worthy causes as the David Brinkerhoff and Jill Mattice
Memorial, and the Ride-for-Roswell Cancer fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Trooper Michael J. Niezgo-
da has demonstrated his character and compassion for the welfare of
others, personifying the collective concern of Troopers across the
community of the State of New York who serve and protect the public; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Kevin B. Dobson Traffic Safety Award by the New York
State Police; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Michael J. Niezgoda.
