LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 65th Anniversary of The Niagara
Falls (NY) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated on May 24, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 65th Anniversary of The Niagara Falls (NY) Chapter of The
Links, Incorporated, to be celebrated at its Legacy Gala, on Sunday, May
24, 2015, at the Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit
corporation, established in 1946, by the late Margaret Roselle Hawkins
and Sarah Strickland Scott; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Links, Incorporated is comprised of 14,000 profes-
sional women in 280 chapters located in 41 states, the District of
Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, a voluntary service organization,
consists of concerned, committed and talented women who, linked in
friendship, enhance the quality of life in communities throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, The mission and vision of this vital organization is to
contribute to the formulation of a positive, productive and culturally
diverse society, with a strong focus on education, cultural enrichment,
health, wellness and civic involvement; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, through its chapters and the Links
Foundation, Incorporated, has granted a significant amount of funds to
numerous organizations; and
WHEREAS, The Niagara Falls Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was
chartered on May 24, 1950; National Treasurer, Link Dorothy Reid
installed the chapter which was sponsored by Link Catherine Adams of
Baltimore, Maryland, and Link Lucille Cuthbert, of Pittsburgh, Pennsyl-
vania; and
WHEREAS, Link Alice C. Hayes was the founding President of The Niagara
Falls Chapter, and Thelma N. Griffin held the position of Corresponding
Secretary; the Charter Members included Theresa Evans, Doris D. Fields,
Thelma Ayers Hardiman, Vera Johnson, Cora P. Maloney, Corrine H. Risdon,
Ruth Scruggs and Vera B. Trimier; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Link Crystal Boling-Barton,
the dedicated members of The Niagara Falls Chapter of The Links, Incor-
porated have always been available to assist others; each year, the
Chapter has made charitable contributions and supported several organ-
izations including the United Way of Niagara, Niagara Community Center
and Girls Club, Niagara Hospice, The Center for Young Parents, Community
Missions, Inc., and Family and Children's Service of Niagara, as well as
many others; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, The Niagara Falls Chapter of The Links, Incor-
porated has sponsored and co-sponsored youth development programs and
conferences, mentoring seminars, cultural festivals, theme luncheons and
walk-a-thons for health and hunger; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic group also administers The Dr. and Mrs. Charles
Beresford Hayes Memorial Medical Scholarship and The Mariella Gentry
Memorial Scholarship Fund, awarding scholarships to students entering
medicine or medically related field; and
WHEREAS, The award winning programs of the Niagara Falls Chapter of
The Links, Incorporated have included initiatives such as At Expose, A
Celebration in the Arts, An Evening Repertoire in the Arts, Month of the
Woman, God Squad, Way to Go! Helping Teens Make Educated Choices,
Colleges and Universities Impacting our Community, Linking Hands, and
The Witness Project, as well as Chasing the Dream; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments, and which serve to bring
people together for such glorious purposes, are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of The Niagara Falls (NY) Chapter of
The Links, Incorporated on May 24, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Crystal Boling-Barton, President, The Niagara Falls (NY)
Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
