LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese for
special honor by the Richmond County Bar Association in recognition of
his numerous contributions to society and the exemplary example he has
set for others

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in commending individ-
uals who have tirelessly demonstrated true purpose and high moral integ-
rity, and whose accomplishments display an enduring pursuit of excel-
lence; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to commend The
Honorable Joseph J. Maltese for special honor by the Richmond County Bar
Association in recognition of his numerous contributions to society and
the exemplary example he has set for others; and
WHEREAS, The stellar accomplishments of Associate Justice Joseph J.
Maltese will be celebrated at the Richmond County Bar Association's
106th Anniversary Banquet; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Maltese graduated from John Jay College of Criminal
Justice receiving a Juris Doctor from New York Law School, and further
demonstrated a firm commitment to his ambitions by subsequently earning
Master's degrees from New York University, Touro College, and National
Judicial College of Nevada, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy at Univer-
sity of Nevada at Reno; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man proudly served his country for over 30
years as a member of the United States Army Reserves, achieving the
esteemed rank of Brigadier General in the New York Guard, Officer of the
United States Army JAG Corps, and as Military Judge for the United
States Army Trial Judiciary; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese began his exceptional legal
career in 1974 with the Appellate Division, and Second Department as
Mental Hygiene Legal Service counsel, before going on to practice law
privately for 15 years; he was then elected to Civil Court in 1991,
Criminal Court in 1992, and appointed to the State Court of Claims in
1996, where he acted as Supreme Court Justice on Staten Island prior to
being elected to the position; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese's contributions to society
are not limited to the court room for he shares his vast empirical know-
ledge as an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School, teaching
courses on product liability and mass torts, and also educates Judges in
scientific evidence at the National Judicial College and at the New York
State Judicial Institute; and
WHEREAS, On January 17, 2014, The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese was
deservedly appointed to the highly esteemed state Appellate Court by New
York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese for special honor by the Rich-
mond County Bar Association in recognition of his numerous contributions
to society and the exemplary example he has set for others; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Joseph J. Maltese.
