LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Federated Conservationists of West-
chester County upon the occasion of hosting its 50th Annual Meeting on
June 3, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations which are dedicated to increasing public
awareness of, and appreciation for, the natural resources of New York,
and recognizing the role all citizens have in protecting the environment
and the quality of life in this Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Federated Conservationists of Westchester County upon the occasion of
hosting its 50th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Edith
G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary, Rye, New York; and
WHEREAS, Federated Conservationists of Westchester County (FCWC), a
charitable organization, is a non-profit environmental coalition of
individual and organizational members; since its inception in 1965, FCWC
has brought together concerned citizens, numerous community organiza-
tions, educators, and diverse professionals committed to preserving and
rehabilitating the natural resources of Westchester County; and
WHEREAS, As a result of its sterling reputation and its role as an
umbrella organization for numerous and disparate environmental groups,
Federated Conservationists of Westchester County has become a trusted
resource for the community; government officials, environmental groups,
schools, and concerned citizens seek the informed opinions and direction
which have become the touchstone of FCWC; and
WHEREAS, An educator, advocate, and protector, FCWC has offered local
solutions to global issues for the past decades; this vital organization
has expanded its role as a bridge builder between the environmental and
business communities and worked to bring all stakeholders together
surrounding these important environmental, social, and economic issues;
and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, FCWC continues to provide
leadership that educates people about environmental issues, problems,
and solutions; advocates sound decision making; and works with groups
and individuals to protect Westchester's natural resources; and
WHEREAS, The success of Federated Conservationists of Westchester
County is in direct correlation to the efforts of its Presidents and
Executive Directors, both past and present, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeav-
ors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, FCWC's distinguished past Presidents include: 1965-67, Dr.
Harold Leonard; 1967-69, Henry Schlichting; 1969-70, Ellin London;
1970-71, Sidney Boxer; 1971-73, Marilyn Bowler; 1973-74, Anne Donaldson;
1974-75, Robert Schofield; 1975-77, Joy Simpkins; 1977-79, Berna Weiss-
man; 1979-81, John Thornborough; 1981-83, Stanley Lincoln; 1983-85,
Garrison Corwin; 1985-87, Pat Keesee; 1987-88, Trudy Battaly; 1988-90,
Bob Funicello; 1990-92, J. Henry Neale; 1992-94, George Case; 1994-97,
Maureen Morgan; 1997-99, Nortrud Spero & Win Parker; 1999-2001, Warren
Ross; 2001-03, Bill Lawyer; 2003-06, Oreon Sandler; 2006-07, Herb Fox;
2007-09, Cesare Manfredi; 2009-10, Steven J. Levy & Sharon Pickett;
2011-12, Steven J. Levy; 2012-13, Jason Klein; and 2014-15, Jason Klein
& Carole Griffiths; FCWC's past Executive Directors include: 1973, Betty
Lee; 1974-77, Anne Donaldson; 1977-80, Susanna Jaeger; 1981-85, Carolyn
Cunningham;, 1985-88, Zelle Andrews; 1988-90, Diana Blaire; 1990-91,
Dick Knabel; 1991-2000, Gudrun Lelash; 2000-03, Edna Sussman; 2003-04,
Kieran Quinn; and FCWC's past Program Directors include: 2005-10, Adiel
Gavish; and 2011-15, 2005-10 Alicia Molloy; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as Federated Conservationists of West-
chester County which work tirelessly on behalf of protecting our natural
surroundings for the benefit of present and future generations of New
Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County upon the
occasion of hosting its 50th Annual Meeting on June 3, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County.
