LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Seagle
Music Colony, Schroon Lake, New York, on July 11, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to honor those
organizations which faithfully devote their purposeful energies to
fostering opportunities for and to contributing to the quality of life
for the youth of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of the Seagle Music Colony, Schroon Lake, New York, to
be celebrated at an event on Saturday, July 11, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A not-for-profit organization, with a rich 100-year history,
Seagle Music Colony is the oldest and one of the most prestigious summer
vocal training programs in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Located on a 20-acre campus on beautiful Schroon Lake, the
Seagle Music Colony greatly contributes to the economic and cultural
well-being of Northern New York State; and
WHEREAS, The Seagle Music Colony program is run by a skilled adminis-
tration, and executed by professional artists and faculty gathered from
universities and professional opera and musical theatre programs across
the country; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Seagle Music Colony iden-
tifies, trains and develops gifted singers, and subsequently, presents
quality opera and musical theatre performances to the public; this vital
organization strives to be the preeminent summer vocal training program
in the world, supported by an operating endowment and state-of-the-art
facilities; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Seagle Music Colony selects 32 of the finest young
singers from across the Nation and around the world to participate in
its illustrious program; artists are chosen through a rigorous applica-
tion and audition process; and
WHEREAS, Artists participate in six fully staged productions every
season along with recitals, concerts, diction and acting classes, and
vespers - sacred music concerts; twice weekly, artists receive private
voice lessons; and
WHEREAS, Artists also receive private coaching sessions, where they
learn audition techniques and receive career planning strategies; in
addition, classes and sessions in other theatrical aspects of the
performance of opera and musical theatre, including sets and costumes,
make-up and hairstyling are also offered; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the summer, these stellar singers have the oppor-
tunity to attend regularly scheduled Masterclasses given by visiting
professional artists, artists' managers and professional company arts
administrators; and
WHEREAS, Today, many of the alumni from the Seagle Music Colony
perform on the greatest stages around the world; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations which enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their mission, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Seagle Music Colony, Schroon
Lake, New York, on July 11, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Seagle Music Colony.
