LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the ratifi-
cation of India's Constitution, and observing Monday, January 26, 2015
as Republic of India Day

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
just tribute to the cultural heritage of the ethnic groups which
comprise and contribute to the richness and diversity of the communities
of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in keeping with its time-ho-
nored traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate
the 65th Anniversary of the ratification of India's Constitution, in
conjunction with the observance of Republic of India Day, Monday, Janu-
ary 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The people of this great State and Nation are proud of the
Indian community and enjoy a deep and abiding relationship rooted in
their culture; and
WHEREAS, India earned its independence from Great Britain through
civil disobedience and peaceful demonstration serving as a model for
social movements in the State of New York and around the globe; and
WHEREAS, Republic of India Day serves as an important milestone for
the spread of democracy abroad and enfranchised an entire subcontinent
of people; and
WHEREAS, New York State is blessed with many citizens of Indian
descent; they are distinguished by their excellence and their contrib-
utions to all fields of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Republic of India Day allows those with Indian
heritage to remember their ethnic and cultural roots; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
those events of signficance which add strength, vigor, and inspiration
to the cultural diversity and quality of life in the communities of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the ratification of India's Consti-
tution, in conjunction with the observance of Republic of India Day,
Monday, January 26, 2015.
