LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Santino Montanez
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Billy Mitchell
Award on May 25, 2015
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so faithfully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during
peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cadet 2nd
Lieutenant Santino Montanez upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Billy Mitchell Award which was celebrated on Monday,
May 25, 2015, at the Memorial Day Ceremony in Fonda, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Billy Mitchell Award was established in 1964 to honor the
late General Billy Mitchell, an aviation pioneer, and staunch supporter
of an independent Air Force for the United States; and
WHEREAS, To achieve this prestigious honor, 2nd Lieutenant Santino
Montanez passed a series of leadership, aerospace, and physical fitness
tests; he also attended character development training for each achieve-
ment from Cadet Airman Basic through Cadet Chief Master Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed young man has exhibited extensive
leadership qualities, and numerous positive attributes in his attitude,
core values, and communication skills, as well as in responsibility,
critical thinking, and delegation; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
cadet now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his superior officers and
parents; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved with great respect and rever-
ent esteem, and, on behalf of all of the citizens of the Empire State,
to renew its tribute to the men and women of New York State who so cour-
ageously served their State and Nation in defense of freedom and democ-
racy; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Santino Montanez upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Billy Mitchell Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Santino Montanez.
