LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Detective Victor DiPierro upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after 20 years of dedicated service to the 49th
Precinct New York City Police Department

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The quality of life in these communities is largely reflec-
tive of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by members of the
agencies which serve to protect, preserve and maintain public order; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; one such individual
is Victor DiPierro; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Detective
Victor DiPierro upon the occasion of his retirement after 20 years of
dedicated service to the 49th Precinct, New York City Police Department;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Pelham Bay, New York, Victor DiPierro graduated
from Blessed Sacrament High School in New Rochelle, New York; after
graduating, he earned an associate's degree from Westchester Business
Institute; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, Victor DiPierro joined the New York City Police
Department (NYPD); during his tenure, he rose through the ranks from the
position of Patrolman to his current post as the department's Community
Affairs Detective on January 25, 2013; he will officially retire from
this position on June 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Community Affairs Detective, Victor DiPi-
erro spends his days dealing with teenagers on street corners, answering
complaints about garbage-strewn sidewalks, and personally removing
graffiti from walls; he believes that these issues, which bring down the
quality of life in a neighborhood, are just as important as major
crimes; and
WHEREAS, Working for the people, Detective Victor DiPierro strives to
teach residents to take both an interest and pride in the community
where they live, work, and play, making New York City a better place to
live; most recently, he was instrumental in restoring a defaced mural of
a local firefighter killed in 9/11; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Lucy, and his son,
Victor Anthony, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Detective Victor DiPierro has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Detective Victor DiPierro upon the occasion of his retirement
after 20 years of dedicated service to the 49th Precinct, New York City
Police Department, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Detective Victor DiPierro.
