LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Annual
Huntington Arts Council's Summer Arts Festival on June 27, 2015

WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Annual Huntington Arts Council's
Summer Arts Festival, to be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at
the Heckscher Museum of Art, Huntington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is the official
arts coordinating agency of the Town of Huntington and serves as the
primary regranting agency in Suffolk County for the New York State Coun-
cil on the Arts (NYSCA); and
WHEREAS, The Huntington Arts Council promotes arts and culture gener-
ated by local artists to the children and to the citizens of Long
Island; this vital organization works to enrich the cultural, social and
economic life of the community by nurturing the professional development
of artists, and by providing timely news and events via ARTS CULTURAL
NEWS; and
WHEREAS, The Huntington Arts Council's Arts-in-Education program
reaches 35,000 children annually through its partner school districts;
it also offers artistic programs and services to more than 100 cultural
organization members who encompass the broad spectrum of arts disci-
plines; and
WHEREAS, The arts are an important reason why Long Island is increas-
ingly recognized as a great place to live, work and conduct business;
the arts generate jobs and wages, millions in annual direct spending,
and millions more in terms of indirect spending by people drawn to
attend cultural events in our community; and
WHEREAS, The Huntington Arts Council plays a leading role in sustain-
ing the economic benefits of the arts through its promotion of activ-
ities and events in its community; creating a vibrant, energized, and
culturally rich society; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Huntington Arts Council has inspired
and aided the growth of hundreds of art organizations and individual
artists now flourishing across Long Island; the Council celebrates the
diversity of Long Island's cultural resources through sponsored activ-
ities, programs and publications which advocate cultural awareness and
education; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Annual Huntington Arts Council's
Summer Arts Festival on June 27, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Board of Directors, Huntington Arts Council.
