LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of George A. Park, Jr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, George A. Park, Jr. of Canandaigua, New York, died on Monday,
March 2, 2015 at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 15, 1945, to George A. Park and Ruth (Carey)
Park, George A. Park, Jr. graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1963; he
went on to earn a degree from the University of Rochester in 1967,
during which time he was a member of the Navy ROTC program, Delta Kappa
Epsilon Fraternity, and captain of the University's basketball team; and
WHEREAS, George A. Park, Jr. distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; he began his illustrious career with the
Gannett Company and was Assistant Publisher of the DAILY MESSENGER from
1980 to 1988; and
WHEREAS, After serving as Publisher of the FINGER LAKES TIMES from
1988 to 1998, George A. Park, Jr. concluded his career as a Director for
the New York State Workers' Compensation Board, retiring in 2007; and
WHEREAS, George A. Park, Jr.'s commitment to excellence and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished athlete throughout his life, George A. Park,
Jr. bowled several 300 games and 800 series, and was inducted into the
Canandaigua Bowling Association Hall of Fame; he excelled at and loved
the game of golf and was a member of Canandaigua, Geneva, Clifton
Springs and CentrePoint Country Clubs; and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, George A. Park, Jr. was a member
of St. Mary's Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and Rotary Club; he
was past president of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce and a board
member for the CATHOLIC COURIER NEWSPAPER and the Granger Homestead; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed man served as Alderman-At-Large
for the City of Canandaigua from 1976 to 1979; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his precious daughter, Licia, George A. Park,
Jr. is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Rose-
mary; three children, Robert (Gloribel), Michael (Laurie) and Linda
(Efrain); seven grandchildren, Victoria, Robert, Christopher, Kathleen,
Annabelle, Cruz and Olivia; brother, James (Carolyn); and many nieces
and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion and comforted by a loving family, George A. Park, Jr. leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of George A. Park, Jr., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of George A. Park, Jr.
