LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sheriff Lee Price upon the occasion of
his retirement after 47 years of distinguished service to Cortland Coun-
ty

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sheriff Lee
Price upon the occasion of his retirement after 47 years of distin-
guished service to Cortland County; and
WHEREAS, For nearly five decades, Sheriff Lee Price has rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to Cortland County, earning
the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, A longtime Virgil resident, Sheriff Lee Price began his
illustrious career in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff in 1968, and
five years later he was promoted to Sergeant; his rise through the ranks
continued in 1979, when he was promoted to the position of Lieutenant;
and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Sheriff Duane Whiteman named Lee Price as his Under-
sheriff, and in 1999 he was elected as Sheriff of Cortland County, the
esteemed position he has held for the past 15 years; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering dedication to the department
and the community-at-large, Sheriff Lee Price has given tirelessly of
his time and energies combatting the community's drug problem; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Sheriff Lee Price has been instrumental in advo-
cating for a larger jail as well as in combining the city police, the
sheriff's department and the 911 center all in the same building; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Sheriff, Lee Price served with loyalty,
honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and
always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Sandy, and
their eight children, Michael (Joan), Stephanie, Robin (Jacklyn),
Bonnie, Eric (Laura), Loretta (Benjamin), James and Lance (Robin), as
well as 14 grandchildren, Katelynn, Mason, Holiday, Carson, Dylan, Nata-
lie, Amanda, Nathaniel, Joseph, Alexis, Quinton, Ashley, Emily and Zaka-
ry, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in
his achievements; and
WHEREAS, In a true partnership of service with her husband, Sandy
Price has held the position of Legislator for the Towns of Virgil and
Harford, New York, for the past 30 years; in addition, she has served as
a Sunday School Teacher for 17 years, and has been a dynamic member of
numerous civic boards and organizations including the Cortland County
Farm Bureau, Salvation Army Board, TC-3 Board of Trustees, Board of
Health, Community Services Board, and Child Development Center Board,
CAPCO, as well as the Virgil Youth Commission; she has also held the
title of President of the Virgil School PTO and Editor of the Virgil
newsletter for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that those dedi-
cated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preser-
vation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sheriff Lee Price upon the occasion of his retirement after 47
years of distinguished service to Cortland County, and to wish to him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sheriff Lee Price.
