LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the North
Rose Fire Company, Inc. to be celebrated July 9-11, 2015
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 100th Anni-
versary of the North Rose Fire Company, Inc., and to honor its past and
present firefighting members for 100 years of fire protection to the
citizens of North Rose, New York and its surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the North Rose Fire Company, Inc. to be
celebrated July 9-11, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The members of the North Rose Fire Company and the entire
community of North Rose will come together to celebrate this auspicious
occasion with a series of events to be held from July 9-11, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community protection
services in every locality of our State; during the past 100 years, the
courageous and devoted firefighters of the North Rose Fire Company have
valiantly responded to all types of fire emergencies and have won the
praise and respect of the community which they serve; and
WHEREAS, In May of 1915, a meeting was held in the office of H. C.
Miner who, with his father, were enthusiastic workers in forming a
Volunteer Fire Department; there were eight men present, and the follow-
ing officers were elected: Chief, R. D. Dickinson; Assistant Chief,
Clare Peterson; Secretary and Treasurer, H. C. Miner; and
WHEREAS, One week later, another meeting was held and 32 men signed
the roll; the organization was officially called the North Rose Chemical
Company; and
WHEREAS, On July 4, 1915, a celebration was held, and due to the hard
work of the members and the support of the community, $500.00 above all
expenses was realized; this amount placed the North Rose Fire Department
on a sound financial basis; and
WHEREAS, On May 4, 1917, a Hook and Ladder Company was organized with
27 men; the officers elected were: President, H. E. Patrick; and Secre-
tary, Seth C. Oaks; and
WHEREAS, The Hook and Ladder Company was heartily welcomed into the
North Rose Fire Department by Chief Dickinson and the members of the old
company; due to the war conditions, however, it was decided to consol-
idate the two Companies; and
WHEREAS, The North Rose Fire Department consisted of 50 members, and
had pleasant club rooms on the second floor; the officers of the Depart-
ment were: Chief, H. E. Patrick; first Assistant Chief, R. D. Dickinson;
Second Assistant Chief, Ross McOmber; President, H. A. Tellier; Vice-
President, C. D. Dillingham; Recording Secretary, Charles Dean; Finan-
cial Secretary, Ray Harris; Treasurer, Llyod Marshall; Trustees, B. V.
Drury, James Lundergan; and Drill Master, Reverend O. D. Dutcher; and
WHEREAS, The Honor Roll of members who proudly served as members of
the United States Amed Forces included: George Ball Jr., L. K. Boyd, S.
C. Oaks, Hayes Catchpole, Edwin Catchpole, Lieutenant Dr. F. F. Froney,
and Lieutenant H. C. Miner; one member, Orrin Thompson, made the supreme
sacrifice, having died in the United States Naval Hospital in Brooklyn;
and
WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of
the North Rose Fire Company in public service and fire protection is one
to be envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year, for 100 years,
whenever the alarm sounded, these noble volunteers left their homes and
went to the aid of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous leadership of Chief, Dennis M.
Wigfield; 1st Assistant Chief, Mark L. Anthony; 2nd Assistant Chief,
Sean P. Guthrie; Truck Captain, Jack T. Fitzpatrick, Safety Officer,
Michael Virts; EMS Captain, Seth J. Hysack; Lieutenants, Jerry Eidman,
Trisha Fitzpatrick, Jake R. Fox, John Fox, Andrew Guthrie, and Amber
Hysack; President, Andrew Guthrie; Vice President, Seth J. Hysack;
Secretary, Edward Darling; and Treasurer, Jeremy Sears; Training Offi-
cer, Dennis M. Wigfield, and Trustees, Steve Guthrie, Norma J.
Russell-Eidman, Jeremy Sears, and Richard E. Wigfield, the brave fire-
fighters of the North Rose Fire Company are prepared to risk their lives
every day to help save the lives of others and to protect homes and
property from the destruction caused by fire; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the skill and devoted service demonstrated by
individual firefighters, the North Rose Fire Company reflects the histo-
ry and development of firefighting over the past 100 years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should give
special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the betterment
of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic good works
performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great Empire State,
their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the North Rose Fire Compa-
ny, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dennis M. Wigfield, Chief, North Rose Fire Department.
