LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Addison High School Girls
Varsity Softball Team upon the occasion of capturing the New York State
Class C Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, teamwork and a dedicated coaching
staff; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State by instilling in them the value
of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, imparting a
desire for success, and developing a sense of fair play and competition;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Addison High School Girls Varsity Softball Team upon the occa-
sion of capturing the New York State Class C Championship on Saturday,
June 13, 2015, in South Glens Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Addison High School Girls Varsity Softball Team won their
first NYSPHSAA Class C title and the first state title in school history
with an impressive 9-3 victory over Elmira Notre Dame High School; and
WHEREAS, Prior to winning the championship game, the Addison Knights
first won the Western Regional Championship and then defeated Hoosic
Valley High School in an exciting 6-5 finish in the state semi-finals;
and
WHEREAS, With their home athletic facilities being upgraded, every
game was an away game for the Addison Knights during their outstanding
17-2 regular season while, during their post-season run to the champion-
ship, the team traveled 1,278 miles and spent nearly 25 hours on the
bus; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Addison Knights is due
in great part to the efforts of Coach Oakley Hayes and his Assistant
Coaches, Megan Putnam and Shawn Jones, skilled and inspirational tutors,
respected for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their state championship, tournament officials
also selected the Addison Knights as the recipient of this year's pres-
tigious "Pauline Sherwood Sportsmanship Award"; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record of 23-2 is outstanding, and the
team members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Addison High School Girls Varsity Soft-
ball Team, from the opening game of the season to participation in the
championship, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sportsman-
ship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players
are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Coach Oakley Hayes has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Oakley Hayes and these outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Addison High School Girls Varsity Softball Team; its
members: Brittanie Bump, Kiarra Burrell, Laura Burrell, Kara Hoad,
Elizabeth Housel, Korri Jones, Sara Knight, Krista Lovell, Becca Piker,
Paige Riff, Madison Risley, Rachael Sutryk, Ann Stull, Kristina
Wendling, Mikey Watkins, and Makenzie Wooldridge; Coach Oakley Hayes,
and Assistant Coaches Megan Putnam and Shawn Jones, on their outstanding
season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Addison High School Girls Varsity Softball
Team, Coach Oakley Hayes, and Assistant Coaches Megan Putnam and Shawn
Jones.
