LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Douglas P. Hanno upon the occasion of
his retirement as Lewis County Clerk after 16 years of distinguished
public service

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who are devoted to the welfare of their community and its citizen-
ry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Douglas P. Hanno upon the occasion of his retirement as Lewis County
Clerk after 16 years of distinguished public service; and
WHEREAS, Douglas P. Hanno began his illustrious career as Lewis County
Clerk in 1999; during his tenure he introduced numerous innovative
programs, took over pistol permit applications as a courtesy to custom-
ers, and administered profound technology upgrades, bringing the office
into the 21st century; and
WHEREAS, A former ice cream and sandwich shop owner as well as a
school bus driver at Lowville Academy and Central School, Douglas P.
Hanno currently owns a car wash business, Hanno's Hometown Car Wash on
Utica Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community, Douglas P. Hanno is President of
the Lewis County Agricultural Society; has also served as a Lowville
Town Councilman and was named the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce's
30th Annual Businessperson of the Year in 2011; and
WHEREAS, A man of true integrity, Douglas P. Hanno leads by example;
he has served Lewis County with distinction, enthusiasm, dedication and
honor, and has overseen countless initiatives that have made his commu-
nity a better and stronger place to live; and
WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Douglas P. Hanno rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to Lewis County, earning the admira-
tion, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Douglas P. Hanno over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication
to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Douglas P. Hanno upon the occasion of his retirement as Lewis
County Clerk after 16 years of distinguished public service, and to wish
him continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Douglas P. Hanno.
