HONORING Dr. Michael and Michele Israel upon the
occasion of their designation for special
recognition by North Country Reform Temple on May 6,
2017

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Michael and Michele Israel have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and
leadership and consequently have been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Michael
and Michele Israel upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by North Country Reform Temple, to be celebrated at its
Biennial Auction on Saturday, May 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Michael and Michele Israel have been called upon to
contribute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Michael Israel was born, raised and educated in Glen Cove,
New York; his family was one of the earliest congregants at North
Country Reform Temple, where he received his Jewish education; and

WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from Glen Cove High School, Michael
Israel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and
Political Science from SUNY Stony Brook; he then went on to earn a Ph.D.
in Educational Administration from New York University in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Israel served as Principal at East Ramapo
School District before returning to his roots in 1999, during which time
he became Principal of the Landing Elementary School in Glen Cove, the
same school he attended as a child; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Dr. Michael Israel, Landing
Elementary School was cited by the United States Department of Education
as a Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Dr. Michael Israel was appointed as Assistant
Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology of the Glen
Cove School District; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Bayside, New York, Michele Israel
graduated from Bayside High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Communications Arts and Sciences at Queens College; she went
on to receive her Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from New York
University as well as her Master's degree in School Counseling from Long
Island University; and

WHEREAS, Michele Israel has served as a School Counselor in the
Great Neck School District for the past 14 years; and


WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their parents, Debby and Leo
Israel and Harriet and Saul Lipman, as well as their three children,
Harrison, Sam and Sarah, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Dr. Michael and Michele
Israel have displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Dr. Michael and Michele Israel, that future generations may know and
appreciate their admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and
their respect and esteem in which they are held by their peers; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Michael and Michele Israel upon the occasion of their
designation for special recognition by North Country Reform Temple on
May 6, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Michael and Michele Israel.
