HONORING the New York Dominican Officers
Organization upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Third Annual Oscar de la Renta
Award on March 25, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the New York Dominican Officers Organization upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Third Annual Oscar de la Renta Award to
be celebrated at a Dominican Reception on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at
the Legislative Office Building in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, In August of 1993, the New York Dominican Officers
Organization (NYDO) was established by officers of Dominican descent who
felt a need for representation of their culture, values and their
community; in 2004, it was officially recognized as a fraternal
organization by the New York City Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, NYDO has worked to orient and recruit
its members to various law enforcement agencies, create youth athletic
programs, and assist the Dominican community via workshops and the
dissemination of vital information; in addition, this vital organization
strives to enlighten its community and act as a role model for its
youth; and

WHEREAS, Currently, NYDO consists of more than 500 members who come
from various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies; in
January of 2017, NYDO was recognized as a fraternal organization for the
New York City Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Locally, NYDO coordinates or participates in many seminars
to educate and provide information to the Dominican community such as
working toward enhancing police relations with members of the community
including taxi drivers, domestic violence workshops, crimes against the
elderly workshops, and gang identification and anti-bullying; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the NYDO Board of Directors meets with police
recruits of Dominican descent to educate them on the pitfalls of police
work and how to protect their careers, and helps with local police
recruitment and conducts tutoring seminars for candidates for the police
entrance exam; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to its community, the NYDO sponsors a team on the
Michael Buczek Baseball Little League in Washington Heights, and each
year, the organization rewards scholarships to three students; and

WHEREAS, The NYDO also travels to the Dominican Republic to deliver
and distribute school supplies to underprivileged children in the most
impoverished provinces of the Dominican Republic, provides computer
equipment to domestic violence units in various provinces of the
Dominican Republic, and supports medical missions such as pediatric
cleft palate surgeries; and

WHEREAS, Today, the NYDO is led by President, Raysa Galvez; 1st
Vice-President of Administration, Moises Suero; 2nd Vice-President of
Rules and ByLaws, Oscar Polancco; 2nd Vice-President of International
Relations, Irving Aguilera; Treasurer, Jimmy Arias; Financial Secretary,
James Robinson; Executive Secretary, Ingris Martinez; Corresponding
Secretary, Angeline Ozuna; 1st Sergeant-at-Arms, Jonathan Jourdain; 2nd
Sergeant-at-Arms, Daniel Tilman; City-Wide Trustee and past President,
Romulo Guerrero; City-Wide Trustee, Community Liaison, and past
President, Edward Rodriguez; and Political Advisor and past President,
Manuel Lantigua; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the New York Dominican Officers Organization upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the Third Annual Oscar de la Renta
Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Raysa Galvez, President, the New York Dominican Officers
Organization.
