COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Wildwood
School on April 28, 2017
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these individuals and
organizations to be recognized for the significance of their
contributions and efforts to assist others in developing the skills
necessary to be successful, productive citizens; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
50th Anniversary of Wildwood School, to be celebrated at its Spring Gala
on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Albany Capital Center, Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Wildwood School provides supports and services to people of
all ages with conditions described as developmental disabilities,
complex learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders; and
WHEREAS, With an emphasis on understanding each individual as a
whole and unique person, children as young as three and adults enjoying
their senior years receive supports and services in every life area in
an environment where they are accepted, respected and valued; and
WHEREAS, Wildwood School was created in 1967, when a group of
parents found that their children did not fit neatly into existing
programs; what began as a program for a handful of preschoolers has
grown into an organization which provides comprehensive supports and
services to well over 1,000 people and their families every year; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast creativity and commitment which led to
Wildwood School's establishment continues today as its staff strives to
meet the individualized needs of the people receiving services as well
as their families; and
WHEREAS, At Wildwood School, everyday challenges are seen as the
catalyst for growth, learning and the adaptation to the environment; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, Wildwood School has been
instrumental in maximizing the independence, fulfillment and
productivity of the population which it serves; and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, Wildwood School has been seen as a leader and
a resource for people with disabilities, their families, and allied
professionals throughout the Capital Region and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 50 year history, Wildwood School has
demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which
it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Wildwood School is in direct correlation to
the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Wildwood School; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Wildwood School on April 28, 2017;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Wildwood School, Schenectady, New York.
