COMMENDING Girls Incorporated of the Greater
Capital Region upon the occasion of hosting its 28th
Annual Dinner and Auction on April 27, 2017

WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and

WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these individuals and
organizations to be recognized for the significance of their
contributions and efforts to assist others in developing the skills
necessary to be successful, productive citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Girls Incorporated of the Greater Capital Region upon the
occasion of hosting its 28th Annual Dinner and Auction to be celebrated
on Thursday, April 27, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Girls Incorporated (Inc.) is a non-profit organization
committed to helping young women build the skills and capabilities
necessary to become responsible, confident and self-sufficient adults;
and

WHEREAS, Hosted by Honorary Co-Chairs Cora and Helga A. Schroeter,
this annual event is a fundraising gala to help Girls Inc. continue to
provide free, after-school programs which seek to enhance girls'
self-esteem, overcome economic and gender barriers, help them make proud
choices and stand up to peer pressure; and

WHEREAS, With the help of the community, this esteemed organization
is proud to introduce its young women to explorations of high
technology, STEM-related career fields, inspiring them to achieve
success in areas they may not have previously considered; and

WHEREAS, Parents have come to rely on the safety of Girls Inc. for
their daughters after school and during school breaks and summer
vacation; the program provides a safe and supportive learning
environment with a commitment to ending bullying; and

WHEREAS, In 2005, Girls Inc. of the Capital Region impacted over
25,000 youth; initiatives for the future include launching more
cooperative projects with schools and establishing collaborative
ventures with other community organizations and businesses; and

WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, Girls Inc. has
enriched the lives of young women in the community; for 80 years, this
vital organization has inspired all girls to be strong, smart and bold,
empowering girls to develop into women who can take their places in
society and can make their places in society; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our

attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Girls Incorporated of the Greater Capital Region upon the
occasion of hosting its 28th Annual Dinner and Auction on April 27,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Girls Incorporated of the Greater Capital Region.
