COMMENDING Janet Squelch upon the occasion of her
selection as Senior of the Month by the Erie County
Senior Services Department

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Janet
Squelch upon the occasion of her selection as Senior of the Month by the
Erie County Senior Services Department; and

WHEREAS, Each month, the Erie County Senior Services Department
pauses to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older
citizens; throughout the month of March, the County is proud to
recognize Janet Squelch for her commitment to the Town of Tonawanda
Senior Center; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Janet Squelch has been an avid volunteer at the Town of
Tonawanda Senior Center for many years; she was the driving force behind
the development of the center's Club 99 Senior Fitness Program, which
has grown into one of the largest in Erie County; and

WHEREAS, As the Club's coordinator, Janet Squelch is always willing
to lend a helping hand and has made it her job to reach out to everyone
at the Center; she makes it a point to not only remember birthdays and
special days, but also visit participants at their homes when they are
ill; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Senior Center, Janet Squelch worked at
General Mills, the Curbell Corporation, Taylor Industries, and Eduardo's
Restaurant; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Scott Garton, who
feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Janet Squelch has enriched the lives of her family, friends
and colleagues through her love and respect for others, and through the
wisdom which comes from many years of living life to the fullest; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Janet Squelch upon the occasion of her selection as Senior of

the Month by the Erie County Senior Services Department; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Janet Squelch.
