CONGRATULATING the Vestal High School Girls'
Basketball Team and Head Coach Joe Reynolds upon the
occasion of capturing the Section 4 Class A
Championship on March 4, 2017
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Vestal High School Girls' Basketball Team and Head Coach Joe Reynolds
upon the occasion of capturing their third consecutive Section 4 Class A
Championship on March 4, 2017; to the praise and applause of their
excited fans, the Golden Bears defeated Maine-Endwell Senior High School
in a 47-40 victory to capture the Championship at the Floyd L. Maines
Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Golden Bears went on an 18-3 scoring spree to close the
opening quarter with an 11-point lead; the scoring margin never dipped
below five through the conclusion of this exciting game; and
WHEREAS, With this monumental win, the Vestal High School Girls'
Basketball Team received a bid to compete in the Regionals in the 2017
NYSPHSAA Girls' Basketball Championship presented by the American Dairy
Association's North East Class A; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of green and gold,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Golden Bears throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive 14-6 overall record; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Joe Reynolds and his expert
coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team,
teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable
both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Joe Reynolds and all of the outstanding athletes
on the Vestal High School Basketball Team have clearly utilized
dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Vestal High School Girls' Basketball
Team: Vickie Cheng, Amanda Fedor, Courtney Franz, Julianna Mushalla,
Hailey Westover, Alyssa Chapman, Shelly Anderson, Johanna Gaffney, Sarah
Harding, Alani Gallagher, Rachel Liss, Liz Hartley, and Aina Carty; Head
Coach Joe Reynolds; and Assistant Coaches Mickey Greenberg and Jodi
Yesensky upon the occasion of capturing the Section 4 Class A
Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Vestal High School Girls' Basketball
Team, Head Coach Joe Reynolds, and Assistant Coaches Mickey Greenberg
and Jodi Yesensky.
