HONORING Meg Gilmartin upon the occasion of her
designation as a recipient of the Pro Bono Award by
The Legal Project on November 4, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Meg
Gilmartin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Pro
Bono Award by The Legal Project to be celebrated with a Luncheon on
Friday, November 4, 2016, at The Century House, Latham, New York; and

WHEREAS, Meg Gilmartin spent nearly 30 years in technical and
operational roles for a variety of specialty chemical manufacturers
before attending law school; she received her bachelor's degree in
Biology and Physics from SUNY Albany, her master's degree in Analytical
Chemistry from RPI, and her J.D. from Western New England School of Law;
and

WHEREAS, After many years away from the Capital District, Meg
Gilmartin relocated to Saratoga Springs in 2014, and started a solo
practice focusing on Business Law and Estate Planning; and

WHEREAS, With strong personal ties to The Legal Project and an
unwavering commitment to its mission, Meg Gilmartin expanded her legal
training and joined its pro bono team in supporting victims of domestic
violence; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, since joining The Legal Project's panel in
July of 2015, Meg Gilmartin has given tirelessly of herself, spending
more than 70 hours assisting eight victims of domestic violence attain
access to justice; and

WHEREAS, Meg Gilmartin was the proud recipient of a 2015 Award for
Outstanding Contribution to Pro Bono and Access to Justice from the New
York State Bar Association and the New York State Courts; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Meg Gilmartin has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Meg Gilmartin upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient
of the Pro Bono Award by The Legal Project on November 4, 2016; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Meg Gilmartin.
