HONORING Gary Perone upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of The HeartShare Genie
Foundation Award by HeartShare Human Services of New
York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Gary Perone has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gary Perone
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of The HeartShare
Genie Foundation Award by HeartShare Human Services of New York to be
celebrated at its Spring Gala and Auction on Thursday, March 30, 2017,
at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1914, HeartShare Human Services of New York has been
making a world of difference in its community as a non-profit human
services agency dedicated to improving the lives of people in need of
special services and support by helping these individuals develop to
their fullest potential and lead meaningful and enriched lives in the
community; and
WHEREAS, When the "Return of Baseball to Brooklyn" finally arrived
in 2001, Gary Perone was named the first Director of Community Relations
for the New York Mets Minor League Class A team, the Brooklyn Cyclones;
he currently serves as the organization's Assistant General Manager; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Gary Perone was one of the 30 executives in
professional baseball chosen to attend the Major League Baseball Scout
School, where he received his certification from Major League Baseball
in professional scouting; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Gary Perone received numerous
awards and accolades including a Presidential Citation Award by the
Minor League Baseball (MILB) for his work in forming and implementing
the Minor League Baseball Diversity Program and the 2012 and 2016 Robert
Julian Community and Baseball Service Award; in 2012, he was named one
of Staten Island's Top 20 Professionals by the Staten Island Economic
Development Corporation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gary Perone was honored at City Hall by the
New York City Council in 2016 for his role in creating the Borough Cup
City Wide Youth Initiative where he brought together city youth with
professional baseball teams, including the New York Mets, the New York
Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Gary Perone serves as an Adjunct Professor for
Business and Sports Management at LIU Brooklyn and is a member of the
Minor League Baseball Diversity Committee, Board of Directors for POWER
PLAY NYC, New York Hot Stove League and continues to lend his support to
numerous other non-profit organizations; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Ellena and their
four children, Nicolette, Dominique, Alexandrea, and Gary John, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gary Perone upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
The HeartShare Genie Foundation Award by HeartShare Human Services of
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gary Perone.
