HONORING Brian T. Hassett upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Community Impact
Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany on
November 17, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Brian T.
Hassett upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Community Impact Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany to be
celebrated at its 9th Annual Red, White and Chocolate Event on Thursday,
November 17, 2016, at the Renaissance Hotel, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany builds hope for many
vulnerable children in the most impoverished neighborhoods; by providing
a safe haven for children every day after school, this vital
organization hopes to develop character-minded individuals who graduate
from high school and go on to become productive residents of their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hassett is being recognized for his hard work,
contributions and steadfast dedication to the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Albany; and

WHEREAS, President and CEO of the United Way of the Greater Capital
Region since September of 2011, Brian T. Hassett has 35 years of
non-profit experience with 27 years as a CEO; his career has focused on
strategic planning, marketing and fundraising at several United Ways and
other human service organizations; and

WHEREAS, Originally from the Bronx, Brian T. Hassett began his
illustrious career locally, serving as an intern in the office of the
Mayor of Cohoes; he served as a United Way National Intern in Rochester,
New York, Fort Worth, Texas and Erie, Pennsylvania before advancing
through a number of fundraising and marketing posts in Cleveland, Ohio
and Richmond, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, In 1990, Brian T. Hassett was named President and CEO of
the United Way of Central Massachusetts, and in 1995 was named President
and CEO of the Valley of the Sun United Way in Phoenix, Arizona; and

WHEREAS, During his seven year tenure in Phoenix, Brian T. Hassett
was instrumental in the organization's 85 percent growth in revenue; and

WHEREAS, In 2001, Brian T. Hassett was named President and CEO of
United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, and led a team effort to consolidate
the region's 52 United Way locations and achieve its fundraising goal;
and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hassett also helped to create United eWay, an
Arizona based non-profit collaborative of 80 local United Way
organizations; this became the industry standard pledge capture and
processing system which is now known as Frontstream Corporation; and

WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed man was the President and CEO of
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona where his organization
served more than 2,400 children; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to the community, Brian T. Hassett has coached
basketball for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Metropolitan Phoenix,
Arizona, and has served on the Youth of the Year Committee for the Boys
and Girls Clubs of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hassett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Political Science from Niagara University and a Master of Public
Administration degree from the University of Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his two children, Laura and
Kevin, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice
in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Brian T. Hassett has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brian T. Hassett upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Community Impact Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany on
November 17, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brian T. Hassett.
