HONORING Pamela Canty upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Volunteer of
the Year Award by the Northeastern Association of
the Blind at Albany on April 8, 2017

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Pamela Canty has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Pamela Canty
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2017 Volunteer
of the Year Award by the Northeastern Association of the Blind at
Albany, to be celebrated at its Annual Visionary Gala, on Saturday,
April 8, 2017, at the Franklin Plaza Ballroom in Troy, New York; and

WHEREAS, Since 1908, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at
Albany (NABA) has provided comprehensive services and programs to
residents of the greater Capital Region who are blind or visually
impaired; in 2016, they helped over 900 individuals of all ages across
14 counties adapt to vision loss, maximize remaining vision, achieve
their goals, and expand their independence; and

WHEREAS, In addition, NABA offered screenings to over 3,640 children
between 18 months and five years of age for possible vision problems;
and

WHEREAS, Pamela Canty is a longtime friend and volunteer of NABA;
for the past several years, she has graciously devoted her time and
energies to helping NABA fulfill its mission of providing critically
needed support, guidance and assistance to the blind and visually
impaired across the Capital Region; and

WHEREAS, Pamela Canty was introduced to NABA on her first day of
employment with FirstLight as a volunteer at their yearly golf
tournament; after meeting NABA's dedicated employees and learning about
their extraordinary services, she realized she had to do whatever she
could to help this worthy organization improve the lives of people
dealing with vision loss and disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her 20 year career, Pamela Canty has garnered a
diverse range of experiences through various aspects of management
including account management, customer relations, IT Project Management,
network security, and database administration; and

WHEREAS, Since September of 2009, Pamela Canty has been an Account
Manager at FirstLight which provides fiber-optic data, Internet, data
center cloud and voice services to enterprise and carrier customers
throughout the Northeast; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Pamela Canty handles existing FirstLight
customer accounts and sells its products to new customers; for many
years in a row, she was recognized for her outstanding sales
performance, and in 2016, she won the President's Club for outstanding
performance; and

WHEREAS, When she is not working, Pamela Canty enjoys travelling and
spending time with her cherished family, especially her eight-month-old
granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of almost 29
years, Tyrone Canty, their two daughters, and one grandchild, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism also promotes family and community solidarity;
most importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and
charitable endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pamela Canty upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award by the Northeastern Association of
the Blind at Albany; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Pamela Canty.
