CONGRATULATING Vernon Larson upon the occasion of
celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Nation and Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Vernon Larson of Wellsville, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating his 100th Birthday; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson was born on February 9, 1917, in Jamestown,
New York, to his loving parents, Magnus and Edith Larson; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson graduated from Kansas City Art Institute and
Syracuse University with a BSA in Painting; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson taught Art at Wellsville Central School until
he retired; over the years he had a positive and profound impact on his
students and still hears from many of them to this day; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson proudly served his country as a member of the
United States Air Force during World War II, from 1942 and 1946, and he
received commission at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as an Engineer; he was
sent to intelligence school and became an Army Air Force Officer; he was
then sent to India and became a Base Intelligence Officer at Kurmitola,
India, where drums of gasoline were flown to China; he was also involved
in setting up an intelligence office at an ATC base, and a Search and
Rescue operation for downed aircraft; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson had the opportunity to interact and
appreciate the different cultures in the Far East and finally returned
to the United States with the esteemed rank of Captain; shortly after
being discharged in 1946, he found a new deep respect for some of the
poorest people he saw and associated with in India; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson married the love of his life, Joyce, and
together they are the proud parents of two children, John and Richard
Larson; he is also the adoring grandfather of Anna Jane Larson; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson has been enjoying his retirement by making a
genealogy tree for his family that is mainly for his sons,
daughter-in-law, and granddaughter which takes part in all forms of art;
and

WHEREAS, Vernon Larson has reached many impressive milestones and
feels the secret to a long healthy life comes from always listening to
his doctors; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a
remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations,

cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this country during
the last century; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Vernon Larson upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Vernon Larson.
