COMMEMORATING the 25th Anniversary of the Downtown
Little League

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those organizations that substantially contribute to the
vitality and well-being of their communities and this great Empire
State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
25th Anniversary of Downtown Little League in Lower Manhattan; and

WHEREAS, Since 1992, Downtown Little League has provided
opportunities for organized baseball and softball for youth ages 5-18 in
Lower Manhattan; and

WHEREAS, With over 1,000 participants, Downtown Little League is one
of the largest single Little League Chapters in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Downtown Little League has overcome significant obstacles
in its 25 years, from 9/11 to damage to its main field after Superstorm
Sandy, each time bouncing back stronger than before; and

WHEREAS, Each Downtown Little League season opens with a parade from
City Hall Park to Battery Park City, and features a carnival, concert,
and guest appearances from former players; and

WHEREAS, Downtown Little League's programs have achieved great
success, winning multiple city and state championships; and

WHEREAS, The Downtown Little League Junior Softball Team made
Downtown Little League the first team from New York City to ever win the
Girls' New York State Little League Championship in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Downtown Little League teaches its athletes the value of
good sportsmanship, team work, and respect; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay just tribute to Downtown Little
League; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional organization and its contributions to the
communities of Lower Manhattan, fully confident that it will continue to
serve as it has thus far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Downtown Little League; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Downtown Little League.
