CONGRATULATING Warwick Valley Boys Basketball Head
Coach Thomas Folino upon the occasion of his
retirement after 27 distinguished years in coaching
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to commend notable athletic coaches
who serve the youth of this great Empire State, and who have
distinguished themselves and their schools through outstanding
commitment and exemplary athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Warwick Valley Boys Basketball Head Coach Thomas Folino
upon the occasion of his retirement after 27 distinguished years in
coaching; and
WHEREAS, After congratulating the Wildcats for winning the Section 9
Class AA Sportsmanship Award during a meeting on Thursday, March 9,
2017, Head Coach Thomas Folino broke the news to his team that he was
stepping down after 27 years of service to Warwick Valley High School;
he felt that it was time for somebody else to come in and take over, and
time for him to do something different; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Folino completed his second 10-year tenure as Head
Coach with an 8-12 record and a team full of promise; and
WHEREAS, The Warwick Boys Basketball Team qualified for sectionals
with 10 wins in Thomas Folino's first season in 1984-1985; one of his
fondest memories is a game against Minisink Valley during the 2011-2012
season when a player hit a game-tying 3-pointer near the end of
regulation and blocked a shot in overtime for the win; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Folino also enjoyed coaching his son Thomas, Jr.
during the 2009-2010 season to a 12-9 record; and
WHEREAS, During his final season, Head Coach Thomas Folino was the
recipient of the distinguished Jim Taravella Award which honors a
basketball coach who displays the same qualities, including dedication,
compassion and sportsmanship, as the late Monroe-Woodbury Coach; and
WHEREAS, For almost three decades, Head Coach Thomas Folino has
"bled purple and gold"; his loyalty to his team members is truly
admirable; all who have had the privilege to work with him through the
years have known him to be an honest and hard-working Coach who always
made the needs and concerns of his students his top priority; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Head Coach Thomas Folino has
educated and touched the lives of many students during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Thomas Folino's positive demeanor, selfless
commitment, and caring concern have contributed to his enduring success
as a coach and mentor, earning him the just respect and admiration of
his community, his peers, and the athletes he has so ably coached; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations
congratulate Warwick Valley Boys Basketball Head Coach Thomas Folino
upon the occasion of his retirement after 27 distinguished years in
coaching, and to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Head Coach Thomas Folino.
