COMMENDING Richard Walls upon the occasion of
being named the West Point Volunteer of the Quarter
on March 2, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism also promotes family and community solidarity;
most importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and
charitable endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Richard
Walls upon the occasion of being named the West Point Volunteer of the
Quarter, celebrated at a ceremony on Thursday, March 2, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Richard Walls received this prestigious award for his
steadfast support of the Better Opportunities of Single Soldiers (BOSS)
Program at West Point; and

WHEREAS, Richard Walls has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, For the past 10 years, Richard Walls has served as an Army
Community Service volunteer supporting family programs; in addition, he
holds the position of Senior Activity Leader for the Woodbury Senior
Center; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Richard Walls has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Richard Walls has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Richard Walls upon the occasion of being named the West Point
Volunteer of the Quarter on March 2, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard Walls.
