HONORING the Observer-Dispatch upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the Longevity
Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Observer-Dispatch upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the Longevity Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce, to be
celebrated at its 49th Annual Membership Meeting/Luncheon on Thursday,
April 13, 2017, at the Travelodge, Little Falls, New York; and

WHEREAS, Published continuously for the past 200 years, the
Observer-Dispatch is the Mohawk Valley region's flagship newspaper,
providing news, high quality journalism and support for vital local
organizations; and WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 200 year history,
the Observer-Dispatch has demonstrated continuous service to the
residents and communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Observer-Dispatch is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the newspaper and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Observer-Dispatch;
and

WHEREAS, Our newspapers provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and

WHEREAS, As the Observer-Dispatch moves into the future, it carries
with it the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and an
outstanding record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Observer-Dispatch upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Longevity Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Observer-Dispatch.
