COMMENDING the Fort Hamilton High School Marching
Regiment upon the occasion of celebrating its 25th
Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
dedication and commitment of our young people who distinguish themselves
through excellence in musical competition; and

WHEREAS, Music competition provides an opportunity for students to
exhibit their practical skills to an audience, thereby giving them a
sense of pride in their hard work and efforts; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment upon the
occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniversary at its Annual Spring
Concert on Wednesday, May 17, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of the Assistant Principal of
Music, Laurence Laurenzano, the first Fort Hamilton High School Marching
Regiment was formed in 1991; during the first year, the students
performed in Disneyworld and Universal Studios, in band competitions and
marched in the Local Ragamuffin Parade; and

WHEREAS, For the last 15 years, Thomas P. Oberle, Assistant
Principal of Performing Arts, has taken direction of the Fort Hamilton
High School Marching Regiment; under his leadership the band has
continued to compete in Festival Disney; they have also competed in
Canada, Atlanta, Williamsburg, and Boston; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the Fort Hamilton High School Marching
Regiment has marched in numerous parades including the Labor Day, St.
Patrick's Day, Norwegian Day, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day and Greek
Independence Parades, as well as many more; and

WHEREAS, The Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment has also
performed for the National Football League and United Way at the
Gridiron Gala; and

WHEREAS, Currently, the Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment
is comprised of 130 members, most of whom also play in the Symphonic
Band, Symphonic Orchestra and Jazz Band; and

WHEREAS, In 2017, the Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment
returned from their 25th out-of-State competition with more than 12 top
awards, including five soloist awards; and

WHEREAS, Talent, dedication, and countless hours of practice have
made the Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment the outstanding
ensemble it is today; and

WHEREAS, The past and present members of the Fort Hamilton High
School Marching Regiment, along with their parents, teachers and alumni,
can be justly proud of their musical achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment upon the
occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas P. Oberle, Assistant Principal of Performing Arts,
Fort Hamilton High School Marching Regiment.
