COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of the Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Serving
Erie County
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations and individuals who would faithfully
dedicate themselves to the care and protection of animals; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals Serving Erie County; and
WHEREAS, Established on April 4, 1867, the Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Serving Erie County is the
second-oldest humane society in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the SPCA Serving Erie County
creates a caring and kind community which encourages fair and humane
treatment of all creatures; and
WHEREAS, SPCA Serving Erie County's knowledgeable, caring, and
open-minded team of staff and volunteers achieve this mission through
proactive efforts to address the current status of animals in its
community, as well as through the education of adults and children, the
rescue and sheltering of animals in need, and the placement of animals
into appropriate homes; and
WHEREAS, Caring for nearly 12,000 animals each year, the SPCA
Serving Erie County offers numerous vital programs some of which include
adoptions, admissions, animal rescues, animal emergency transports,
stray lost and found services, animal cruelty investigations and
seizures, and care for wildlife, reptiles, exotics, and farm animals;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, the SPCA Serving Erie County is one of few
humane societies in the country with an on-site surgical suite for
animal sterilization, surgery and overall care; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 150 year history, the SPCA Serving
Erie County has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the SPCA Serving Erie County is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff and volunteers, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the SPCA Serving Erie
County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals Serving Erie County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Serving Erie County.
