CONGRATULATING the South Shore High School Girls
Basketball Team and Head Coach Anwar Gladden upon
the occasion of capturing the 2017 PSAL AA
Championship

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
South Shore High School Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Anwar
Gladden upon the occasion of capturing the 2017 PSAL AA Championship; to
the praise and applause of their excited fans, the Vikings defeated
Murry Bergtraum High School in a dominant 68-34 victory to capture their
third straight Championship on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Madison
Square Garden in New York, New York; and

WHEREAS, As has been the case all year, the South Shore High School
Girls Basketball Team played a tough defensive game, which led to
numerous turnovers and easy points in transition; and

WHEREAS, After this monumental win, the Lady Vikings earned a bid to
the New York State Federation of Secondary Schools Athletic Association
Tournament of Champions which is held from March 24-26, 2017, at the
Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York; the event is
comprised of champions from the NYSPHSAA, the PSAL, the CHSAA, and the
NYAISAA; and

WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of purple and gold,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Vikings throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive 23-4 overall record; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Anwar Gladden and his expert
coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team,
teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable
both on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Anwar Gladden and all of the outstanding
athletes on the South Shore High School Girls Basketball Team have
clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a
lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the South Shore High School Girls Basketball
Team: Fatima Lee, Earlette Scott, Valena Hickerson, Destiny Philoxy,
Fanta Ballo, Keyanna Glover, Tsahai Corbie, Alexis Williams, Jasmine
Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Jayda Allen, Selena Philoxy, and Diamond Shavis;
and Head Coach Anwar Gladden upon the occasion of capturing the 2017
PSAL AA Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the South Shore High School Girls
Basketball Team, and Head Coach Anwar Gladden.
