HONORING Cyrahdi Henry upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Harambee Achievement
Award by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.
on April 8, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
honor Cyrahdi Henry upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Harambee Achievement Award by the National Council of Negro Women,
Inc., to be feted at its 32nd Annual Harambee Celebration on Saturday,
April 8, 2017, at the Medgar Evers College Cafeteria, in Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) is a body
of national African American women's organizations and community based
sections; founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, the NCNW strives to
lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support
their families and communities through research, and national and
community-based services and programs on health, education, and economic
empowerment issues in both the United States and Africa; and

WHEREAS, Through 39 national affiliates and more than 240 sections,
NCNW has reached and supported nearly four million women; and

WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Section of the National Council of Negro
Women, Inc. was organized on January 22, 1962, at the Bedford YMCA by
Odessa L. Skeene, and received its Charter on March 12, 1962; and

WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Section maintains a strong commitment to its
young people through education, outreach programs, counseling and
recognition; it sponsors community ventures to enhance the health and
social services of residents through seminars, health fairs and voter
registration campaigns for self-empowerment; and

WHEREAS, Cyrahdi Henry is receiving this prestigious award for his
exemplary academic accomplishments, community service and church
activities; and

WHEREAS, Cyrahdi Henry was born on December 3, 2003; for two years,
he was a student at P.S. 9 in Brooklyn, where he was well-loved by his
teachers for his great work and attitude; he then attended the UFT
Charter School for an additional two years, where he continued to
thrive; and

WHEREAS, After moving to Queens, New York, Cyrahdi Henry went to P.
S. 135, where he achieved good grades; at each of his schools, he has
received many awards for academic excellence, perfect attendance, and

for being in uniform at all times; even though he suffers with asthma,
school is his number one priority; and

WHEREAS, After eight years, Cyrahdi Henry moved back to Brooklyn,
and became a student at P. S. 13, where he continued to excel; once
again, he was the recipient of numerous accolades at his graduation; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Cyrahdi Henry is a member of the student body of
Margaret S. Douglas I. S. 292 where he is earning excellent grades; and

WHEREAS, When he is not in school, Cyrahdi Henry loves to cook and
has become an expert at building Legos creations; he is studying karate,
and enjoys learning new cooking skills in a class at the Good Shepherd
After School Program; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable young man serves as a College Ambassador,
and two years ago, Cyrahdi Henry joined the Bethel Baptist Church after
attending regularly for the past eight years; he is a faithful member of
the Young People's Usher Ministry, The Praise Dance Ministry, The Little
Saints in Praise Choir and The Youth Ministry where he loves serving the
Lord and has been called a "junior prayer warrior"; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his church,
Cyrahdi Henry has been the recipient of many awards and certificates;
and

WHEREAS, Cyrahdi Henry dreams of becoming a famous chef and
anticipates attending a culinary high school; after graduation, he plans
to go to college and become a successful young man; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his mother, Angel Henry, and
his two aunts, Delphine Blackman and Angel Cooper, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his accomplishments;
and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers,
minister, and family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cyrahdi Henry upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Harambee Achievement Award by the National Council of Negro Women,
Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cyrahdi Henry.
