COMMENDING Thomas J. Tweedy upon the occasion of
his retirement after 16 years of distinguished
service to the Village of Floral Park

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Thomas J. Tweedy upon the occasion of his retirement after 16
years of distinguished service to the Village of Floral Park to be
celebrated at a party held in his honor on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the
Stewart Manor Country Club in Garden City, New York; and

WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Floral Park, Thomas J. Tweedy is a
principal in Edwin S. Tweedy, Inc., a family owned general construction
and construction management firm, a member of the Floral Park Chamber of
Commerce, and holds the illustrious position of Mayor of Floral Park;
and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Mayor of Floral Park, Thomas J. Tweedy
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his
official acts; and

WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Thomas J. Tweedy rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Village of Floral Park,
earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his esteemed position as Mayor, Thomas J.
Tweedy served as both the Commissioner of Department of Buildings and
Department of Public Works, where he reorganized the management within
the supervisors unit and began the initiative regarding road repairs;
and

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Tweedy also served as Fire Commissioner, where he
oversaw the replacement of their engine; he also served as Recreation
Commissioner, where he oversaw the expansion of recreational offerings
as well as expediting a home field for Titans football, and library
commissioner, where he oversaw the cupola restoration, roofing and HVAC
projects; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Thomas J. Tweedy has served as
a liaison to the Recreation and Pool Committees, Citizens with
Disabilities Committee, 4 Village Studio, Cultural Arts Committee,
Beautification Committee, Resident Committee and Ethics Committee as
well as the Electrical, Plumbing and Grievance Boards; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Thomas J. Tweedy managed Little League
baseball, tournament and summer league baseball teams and coached Floral
Park Indians basketball and soccer teams; he served as a Director and
Officer of the Floral Park Indians Athletic Association; and


WHEREAS, Thomas J. Tweedy was also a member of multiple
organizations including the West End Civic Association, the Citizens
Party, Lexington School for the Deaf PTSA, Architectural Review Board
and the Recreation Committee; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, MaryAnn, and his
children, Michael and Caitlin, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Thomas J. Tweedy upon the occasion of his retirement after 16
years of distinguished service to the Village of Floral Park; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas J. Tweedy.
