COMMENDING The Honorable Rowan D. Wilson upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the New York State Trial Lawyers Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those singular individuals who devote their purposeful
lives and careers to preserving the rights and protecting the welfare of
the citizens of their community and the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Honorable Rowan D. Wilson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York State Trial Lawyers
Association, to be celebrated at its Annual Law Day Dinner on Thursday,
May 4, 2017, at the Hilton New York; and

WHEREAS, Born in Pomona, California, Rowan D. Wilson received a
Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Harvard College in 1981; he went
on to earn a Juris Doctor degree cum laude from Harvard Law School in
1984, where he was a member of the Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Law
Review; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his studies, Rowan D. Wilson served
in a two-year clerkship with the Honorable James R. Browning, before
joining Cravath, Swaine & Moore in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Rowan D. Wilson served as a partner at Cravath, Swaine &
Moore for 25 years, during which time he practiced complex litigation,
including antitrust and competition, intellectual property, contract,
securities fraud, entertainment and media, as well as civil rights and
employment matters; and

WHEREAS, Today, Judge Rowan D. Wilson serves in the esteemed
position of Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals of the State of New
York; and

WHEREAS, Throughout a life and career of purposeful endeavor, Rowan
D. Wilson remains true to his commitment, serving family, faith and
community, as well as the law; his contributions and accomplishments
continue to bring great benefit and positive influence to bear upon the
course of jurisprudence and the quality of life for others; and

WHEREAS, Firm in his commitment, Judge Rowan D. Wilson remains
dedicated to the betterment and progress of the communities which
comprise this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Respected by both attorneys and defendants alike, Judge
Rowan D. Wilson conducts an impartial and objective court; he treats
all defendants with compassion and dignity while at the same time
remaining fair in his rulings; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity
to express its highest admiration for Judge Rowan D. Wilson and to wish

him continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Rowan D. Wilson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York State Trial Lawyers
Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Rowan D. Wilson.
