COMMENDING Ashli Dreher upon the occasion of her
induction into the National Teachers Hall of Fame on
April 28, 2017

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
accomplishments of those outstanding educational leaders, whose
dedication and achievements have been instrumental in developing
character and academic excellence in the young people of New York State;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ashli Dreher upon the occasion of her induction into the
National Teachers Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at a Gala on Friday,
April 28, 2017, at the National Education Association Headquarters in
Washington, D.C.; she will be formally inducted into The Hall of Fame at
Emporia State University in Kansas, on Friday, June 23, 2017; and

WHEREAS, A former New York State Teacher of the Year, Ashli Dreher
is the first Buffalo Niagara area teacher to be inducted into the
National Teachers Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Ashli Dreher attended Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda schools and
graduated from Canisius College; she is also certified as a School
District Administrator; and

WHEREAS, In 1998, Ashli Dreher earned her master's degree in special
education from D'Youville College; she furthered her education by
obtaining a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from
the University at Buffalo in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Ashli Dreher is on track to receive a doctorate
in teaching and curriculum in May of 2017, from the University of
Rochester; and

WHEREAS, Ashli Dreher engages her students, mentors other teachers
and is a strong advocate for education; she brings enthusiasm and
passion to her classroom every day; and

WHEREAS, For the last 19 years, Ashli Dreher has taught special
education at the Lewiston-Porter Central School District in Youngstown,
New York; currently, she teaches a 12-student class in the high school;
and

WHEREAS, Ashli Dreher truly has a gift for working with children;
through her innovative programming, many of her students have learned to
read; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two daughters, both of
whom have shown her love and support and rejoice in her many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Educators like Ashli Dreher provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and

WHEREAS, Ashli Dreher has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of her school, as well as on the Youngstown community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive
dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ashli Dreher upon the occasion of her induction into the
National Teachers Hall of Fame on April 28, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ashli Dreher.
