HONORING Eileen Farrell upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition in conjunction
with the observance of National Library Workers Day
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across the great
State of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions and
individuals whose purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the
needs of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Eileen Farrell upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition in conjunction with the observance of National Library
Workers Day, to be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Mineola,
New York; and
WHEREAS, National Library Workers Day (NLWD) is a day for library
staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the
valuable contributions made by all library workers; and
WHEREAS, On January 23, 2003, a resolution was proposed to recognize
the hard work, dedication, and expertise of library support staff and
librarians on the Tuesday of National Library Week, and to designate
this day as National Library Workers Day; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Farrell serves the Mineola Memorial Library as
Reference and Teen Services Librarian, a position she has held for the
past 2 years; she has been an outstanding librarian and a true asset to
the community through her enthusiasm for her work and creative
approaches to serving library patrons; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Eileen Farrell gives tirelessly of her time and energies to
Mineola Memorial Library's Homebound service; in this capacity, she
customizes book selections and makes personal deliveries to those unable
to leave their homes; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Eileen Farrell runs Teen Room, a popular
afterschool program, as well as Read Broader, a year-long program
encouraging library patrons to read steadily and diversely and, at
times, outside their comfort zone; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Mineola Memorial Library is in direct
correlation to the efforts of Eileen Farrell, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the library and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Eileen Farrell; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eileen Farrell upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition in conjunction with the observance of National Library
Workers Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eileen Farrell.
