HONORING Etana Desir upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Youth of the
Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh on
March 22, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Etana Desir upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh,
celebrated at an Awards Dinner on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at
Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, A 6th grader at Temple Hill Academy, Etana Desir joined the
Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh in October of 2015; and
WHEREAS, Etana Desir serves as a Counselor in Training at the Boys &
Girls Club; in this capacity, she helps younger members with their
homework and assists with various classroom activities; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic young woman is also a vital member of Girls on
the Run, Girl Scouts, and the "GREEN HOUSE" gardening team, where she
restores the Temple Hill Greenhouse and grows fresh vegetables; in
addition, she is an active participant of her church's youth ministry;
and
WHEREAS, An ambitious and hard-working student, Etana Desir enjoys
playing sports and helping others; after graduation, she hopes to go to
college and become a teacher; and
WHEREAS, Etana Desir truly loves being a vital part of the Boys &
Girls Club of Newburgh; she is well-liked by her peers and knows that
her teachers are always available to listen to her concerns, help her
with her problems, and encourage her happy moments and aspirations; and
WHEREAS, Through her active involvement in the community and her
sincere dedication to others, Etana Desir has become an exceptional role
model for others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Etana Desir upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh on
March 22, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Etana Desir.
