COMMENDING Nicholas Zaromatidis upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by the
Jewish Community Relations Council at the Annual
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration on April 27,
2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Nicholas Zaromatidis upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the
Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration to be held on Thursday,
April 27, 2017, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York; and

WHEREAS, Holocaust Remembrance Day, known in Hebrew as Yom HaShoah,
is a day set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for
reminding New Yorkers, all Americans, and people around the world of
what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and
indifference reign; and

WHEREAS, At this auspicious event, Nicholas Zaromatidis will be
recognized for his diligent work in creating a more civil society for
the citizens of not only Nassau County, but the entire State of New
York; and

WHEREAS, Nicholas Zaromatidis, a student at H. Frank Carey High
School, in Franklin Square, New York, is well-known as an altruistic,
kind-hearted, responsible, and hard-working individual; he is an
extremely industrious young man who is always willing to lend a helping
hand to those in need; and

WHEREAS, Most of Nicholas Zaromatidis' extra-curricular activities
focus on volunteering; he works at the After-School Model United Nations
Club, where he has designed a curriculum which promotes global awareness
among elementary school children; in addition, he has utilized his
expertise in international affairs and adroit public speaking skills to
both inform and inspire young students to get involved and make a
difference in world issues; and

WHEREAS, In January of 2016, Nicholas Zaromatidis began interning
for New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages; in this capacity,
he has helped plan community events for the 22nd District which
addressed issues such as opiate addiction, immigration, female
empowerment, and ethnic diversity; and

WHEREAS, A decorated debater, Nicholas Zaromatidis is a both a vital
member and co-President of the Model United Nations Club; he has won
Outstanding and Honorable Mention Awards at the Ivy League and William
and Mary Model United Nations Conferences; and


WHEREAS, In 2016, Nicholas Zaromatidis helped relaunch H. Frank
Carey's Mock Trial Club, where he worked side by side with criminal
defense attorneys to hone the craft of oral argument; and

WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Nicholas Zaromatidis represents the best development of the potential
which is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nicholas Zaromatidis upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the
Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nicholas Zaromatidis.
