HONORING Barbara Page upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Senior Citizen
of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County Office
for the Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Page upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County Office
for the Aging; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, she has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in her unwavering service to her community and, consequently,
has been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Page has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Page embodies the principles and ideals that make
us proud to be Americans and has been an active volunteer for over 40
years; and
WHEREAS, Through her locally owned business, the popular restaurant
Reflections, she has participated in several community fundraisers also
contributing her coveted homemade doughnuts to be sold at the
fundraisers; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Page has actively participated in her local senior
club, serving as its President and revitalizing the club by bringing in
new members; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman also assists the Amish community with
transportation and other needed services, regularly provides
transportation for senior citizens to medical appointments, helps
friends and neighbors with their gardens, and welcomes new community
members; and
WHEREAS, During the Ice Storm of 1998, she provided housing and food
for 24 senior citizens in her home for two weeks, putting into practice
her personal motto to "give from the heart and know it will be right";
and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Barbara Page has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Page upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County
Office for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Barbara Page.
